Foundation cancels awards dinner due to virus
The Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation recently announced that the 23rd annual Awards Dinner scheduled for Sept. 5 will not be held this year at the Fairmont Orchid due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the safety issues associated with large group gatherings.
“During these difficult times, we are seeking financial support from our entire island community to purchase needed equipment and training for our Hawaii Fire Department. Our first responders are putting their lives on the line every day and yet, due to the financial difficulties for the State and the County of Hawaii, their funding is being reduced for staffing, equipment and training,” a message from the foundation reads. “They need our help as a community more than ever right now.”
Contact executive director Laura Mallery-Sayre at mallerysayre@hawaii.rr.com to be involved with our community’s fundraising efforts to support the Hawaii Fire Department. Invitations to participate will be sent out on July 1.
The 23rd annual recognition of outstanding members of the Hawaii Fire Department for their Meritorious Service Above and Beyond the Call of Duty will be available at www.danielsayrefoundation.org via YouTube videos as well as the list of items that are needed by the fire department for this year.
